IELTS Syllabus 2026

IELTS Syllabus 2026

IELTS Academic syllabus 2026: skills, themes and task types Indian students should actually practise — there is no official NCERT-style syllabus PDF.

Who this page is for

Indian students booking or sitting IELTS Academic (or deciding whether they actually need UKVI).

Overview

IELTS does not publish a school-style syllabus with chapters. What people mean by 'syllabus' is the skill inventory: academic listening, long-form reading, graph description, discursive writing, and interactive speaking. Coaching institutes that sell a 'complete IELTS syllabus PDF' are usually recycling last year's topic lists.

What actually matters

  • There is no fixed list of essay titles. There is a fixed list of task types.
  • General Training reading and Task 1 letters are a different syllabus — do not mix them if you need Academic.
  • Topic vocabulary helps Speaking and Writing; memorised essays are penalised.

What to cover in 6–8 weeks

Week structure beats a 200-page 'syllabus book': three timed Listening/Reading sections a week, two Task 1 and two Task 2 scripts, daily 15-minute speaking. Use preparation and 30-day plan.
