Overview
The Academic paper is four sections in a fixed order on test day for the written papers, with Speaking scheduled the same day or within a short window. Pattern pages that only list 'Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking' skip the part that actually changes your prep: question types per section, computer vs paper, and whether you booked UKVI.
What actually matters
- Listening and Reading are scored by correct answers mapped to bands; Writing and Speaking use published band descriptors.
- Computer-delivered Academic is the common India booking; the tasks are the same, the navigation is not.
- UKVI uses the same skills, a different report and centre network.
Section timings
Listening is about 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes to transfer answers on paper only). Reading is 60 minutes with no extra transfer time. Writing is 60 minutes (Task 1 ~20 minutes, Task 2 ~40). Speaking is 11–14 minutes in three parts. Build stamina for the 2 hour 40 minute written block — that, not vocabulary lists, is what 30-day plans should protect.
Question types you must drill
Listening: form/note/table completion, map or diagram labelling, multiple choice, matching. Reading: True/False/Not Given, Yes/No/Not Given, matching headings, summary completion. Writing: Academic Task 1 (graph, process, map) and Task 2 (opinion, discussion, problem-solution). Speaking: Part 1 interview, Part 2 cue card, Part 3 discussion. Drill pages: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking.
