For Indian STEM applicants, 6.5 overall is the working number for UK, Australian, Irish and many Canadian master's. US MS CS / AI pages may list IELTS 6.5–7.0 or TOEFL 80–100, and some assistantships want stronger speaking. Do not assume a 6.5 Academic TRF covers a UK visa — that is UKVI.

What actually matters

  • STEM is not automatically a lower English bar.
  • Teaching assistantships can add a speaking floor after admission.
  • Germany: APS and uni-assist timelines matter as much as the band.

MS CS specifically
