Universities Accepting IELTS 6.5

Universities Accepting IELTS 6.5

IELTS 6.5 is the standard taught-master's floor. How Indian applicants should read 6.5 overall vs no-band-below-6.0, and where 7.0 still appears.

Who this page is for

Indian applicants who already have (or expect) an IELTS Academic score and need to know what doors it opens.

Overview

6.5 overall is the most common postgraduate English line Indian applicants will see for the UK, Australia, Ireland and many Canadian and European taught master's. It is not a global passport. US programmes may quote TOEFL instead. Competitive courses still print 7.0. And '6.5 overall, no less than 6.0' fails you if Writing is 5.5.

What actually matters

  • 6.5 is the default master's planning number, not a guarantee.
  • Pre-sessional English is a paid extra semester if you miss a section.
  • UKVI / SELT is a separate product if the visa needs it.

Where 6.5 is usually the conversation

UK taught master's, Australian coursework master's, Irish postgraduate taught, many Canadian MEng/MSc pages. Germany is mixed: some English-taught master's list 6.5, some want 7.0 or TestDaF/TOEFL. Use destination pages rather than a single global table.

Fees, dates, accepted scores and visa rules change. Confirm the current figure on the official test, university, regulator or government page before you book or pay. StudyWhere is an advisor, not the test owner.
