Overview
7.0 overall is a good user. It clears most taught-master's floors and is the number that shows up on selective journalism, law, clinical, and some scholarship pages. It is not an Ivy League ticket by itself. Some professional registration routes (and some UK programmes) want 7.0 with 7.0 in each skill — a different sitting outcome from 7.0 overall and 6.5 in Writing.
What actually matters
- 7.0 overall ≠ 7.0 in every band.
- Scholarships and Chevening-class processes care about the written requirement, not a 'good score' headline.
- If you already hold 7.0, do not switch to PTE for folklore.
When to stop sitting tests
If every programme on the shortlist is met, stop. Extra sittings delay CAS and waste fees. Use the university finder before you rebook.
