Overview
A SELT is a Secure English Language Test on the UK Home Office approved list. It is a category, not a brand. The UK currently recognises approved providers including the IELTS SELT Consortium, Pearson, LANGUAGECERT, PSI (overseas) and Trinity (in the UK). The tests Indian applicants actually book are usually IELTS for UKVI and PTE Academic UKVI. Generic IELTS Academic and generic PTE Academic are not SELTs.
What actually matters
- Book the UKVI / SELT product at an approved centre.
- The CEFR level (A1, A2, B1, B2) depends on the visa route, not on what your friend sat.
- Universities can accept Academic for the offer and still leave you sitting a SELT for the visa.
