Quick verdict
CELPIP-General is a Canada-specific computer test built to map cleanly to CLB. IELTS General Training is the same CLB table with a different format and much wider global availability. For Canadian immigration, both are accepted when the programme lists them. Pick the format you score higher in and the test date you can actually book — not a forum claim that one engine is “easier.”

Who should pick which
- Pick CELPIP if every IRCC form you care about lists it, you prefer a fully computer lab, and you can book a seat in time.
- Pick IELTS General Training if CELPIP dates are thin, you already train IELTS, or you might also need an IELTS score for a non-Canada file.
- Do not sit IELTS Academic for Express Entry because a coaching centre bundled it with university prep. IRCC wants the General / CELPIP product named on the instrument.
Accent is not a trick question. CELPIP’s Canadian audio helps some Indian test-takers and confuses others who trained on IELTS recordings. Do one timed section of each before you pay.
